Let’s Talk Turkey Sandwiches

TurkeySo I was here a few days ago, with the whole turkey sandwich thing. Some of you have told me some interesting stories about how you like breakfast for dinner. Here’s your new mission: Tell me how to make the best turkey sandwich. Now me, I’m a simple guy. So here’s how mine goes:

You have to get the good stuff. No prepackaged turkey meat. Go to your local deli and have them slice you up some turkey. Fresh from Thanksgiving if possible, but the smoked deli turkey meat is good too. Grab a couple slices of wheat bread. Put some mustard on both sides for decent flavor. Add some lettuce if you can stand the green. Put the turkey and some cheese on it. When I say cheese, I don’t mean American slices. I mean something like provolone or Colby Jack. Tonight I had Colby Jack. Good stuff. Put it all together. Munch. Sometimes I like to toast the bread for extra crunch. Or if I’m having chips, and they’re a good flavor, like barbecue, then I put a few right on the sandwich. Adds some good texture and flavor.

So what’s your perfect turkey sandwich? And if you don’t like turkey, what’s your perfect sandwich?

Definitely not diet, but my favorite turkey sandwich is left over Thanksgiving turkey, leftover oyster dressing, cranberry sauce and mayo on whole wheat. (egad I got hungry just typoing that ;)

Hello, kind sir. May I intrude into your Turkey Sandwich musings to tell you you’ve been tagged to do this meme?

Alan: You know, I was just thinking that some leftover cranberry sauce and sweet potato casserole might go good with some leftover turkey on some toasted wheat bread (Toasted to be able to hold it). We think alike. Although I’ve never tried it. And for my diet, each portion would have to be small.

Evil Woobie: I like that idea. Will do so in a few.

I do love the leftovers sandwiches, but on a regular day, I really enjoy some nice Italian bread (we have a local bakery that delivers to all the stores here - softest, fat free, high fiber Italian bread you’ll ever eat - with a tiny bit of Jack Daniel’s honey mustard, hummus, cucumbers, turkey, and extra sharp cheddar cheese. BEST sammich ever! :)

@Lara - Mmmm. That sounds good. Of course I’m a huge fan of bread. Any kind of bread. Too bad I can’t eat most of it right now.
