I bet you thought I meant something else with the title, right? Nope. I bought an iPhone. Our taxes came in and I asked my wife if it was ok to buy myself an iPhone, because that’s what husbands like me have to do when making big purchases like this.
Of course I pulled out all the stops too. I mentioned how we could use the map feature while on the road so we wouldn’t get lost. I told her I could hang out with her more now and still be able to get e-mails read and such. But the truth is, I meant them. I was not only telling her, but I was telling me. See, I used to spend money very easily. But about 6 or 7 years ago I stopped. We have a Wii, but I sold tons of stuff like games and hobby stuff just to get it. So I had to “sell” the iPhone to not only her but me too.
So today I splurged. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that with money I haven’t earned specifically for the “fun stuff.” I’m proud of myself for having gone this long without a purchase like this. But this time, I gave in to my consumer side. But this has been a planned purchase for 2 weeks now, so it was definitely not a spur of the moment thing.
I still can’t believe you thought I splurged on my diet. I know you did as soon as you saw that title. You should know better by now. I never splurge on my diet. I try, but it just doesn’t happen. You’ll understand what I mean with tomorrow’s diet post.

Last of the “Big” spenders, huh. I don’t even have a phone. I just bought a new cellphone for my wife, but I use ventrillo if I need to actually talk to someone.
Taxes? They are going to be a pain this year. I’m going to write off everything internet related, including my cable bill.

Great phone, but I think the iPhone is overrated. I needed a smartphone for map usage and wifi, but I was lucky to get the “O2 XDA Flame”. Search it up and you’ll like it :). It’s around $350-400 on eBay, but i got mine for $300 + the GPS receiver. Top it with a illegal download of TomTom GPS and other software, I have a perfect mini computer

Congratulations! Very cool. Would love to hear how you like it after using it for a while. I have already warned my wife that 2008 is the year of the iPhone for me. I have a Palm Treo know, but I really want a real web browser like the iPhone has. That way I might not have to carry my laptop around with me as much. I understand about discussing the expenditure with the wife though. After 22 years of marriage, I am finally learning.

Very Interesting blog site. Don’t give up you will get there. I lost 150lbs from 10/2001 to 7/2002. I was 255 and went to 150 which was way to low for me. Now I am at 168 which I feel better, but need to lost 7 to 8lbs, the holiday thing you know?

I am happy to read you got an iPhone. When they first came out I thought it was a rediculous product, but now I wish I had one.
I also think it is cool and respctful that you and your wife discuss what to purchase with the tax refund.

@Turnip - Well, my wife and I are substitutes. So we don’t make much right now and normally get good refunds.
@Mike Huang - I had a Cingular 8125 before this that was bought for me for Christmas 2 years ago. However, the iPhone does more of what I want to do and does it better than most pocket PCs. I did a lot of research before buying it. I’m more into the “entertainment” aspect of it which it does extremely well.
@Michael - It works much better for browsing and e-mail than any other PDA phone I’ve seen or tried so far. That was another reason I picked it. I get tons of e-mail every day that actually needs response. And the keyboard on this thing is VERY easy to use.
@blogzilla - Don’t worry. I don’t give up. I’ve got my eye on the prize of being a muscular and healthy individual. I’m slowly seeing that happen.
@Debo - Communication is the key.

Congrats on your weight lossingness, and also convincing your wife to let you get yourself an iphone. Us wives can be pretty tight with the money sometimes heh.

Holy moly I’m jealous! I’m thinking of selling a kidney to get one, but I think I’ve ruined mine with liquor and Diet Coke, so not sure if they are worth anything on E-bay. Sigh.

I have just been read through a few of your posts and I am amazed as to how you keep up with the diet. A lot of people I know would be interested in reading what you have done and how you are going about doing it. It cant be easy. Humans generally lack discipline.
I like how you splurge out on an iphone as well – good for you!
Keep on doing your thing.

The “O2 XDA FLAME” I’m talking about has both a 2MP camera and a WEBCAM camera on the front. As for entertainment, I think it beats all the phones so far because it’s using an NVIDIA Go Video card

@Mike - I see what you’re talking about now. Looks like a great phone. You’re lucky you got it at that price. You should have told em about it BEFORE I got the iPhone though.

Who knows, maybe if you don’t like the iPhone, we can do a trade? lol
I don’t purchase those expensive data plans though. I mainly use the WIFI feature on my phone to go online and do some quick post editing.

@Mike - I’m too used to having an iPod that works as a phone now. So no trade. Sorry.
But I have to say that another reason I liked it was the fact that you could get the unlimited data plan for cheap if you used the iPhone. What normally costs $50 a month or more only costs me $20 a month. And actually, with the way I shuffled around my services, it’s costing me nothing extra per month.
I figure it’ll be even more powerful as a mobile device once they open up 3rd party apps.
