A McShort Goodbye

McDonald’sWell. I had to take back the car from yesterday. I had to leave it all alone on the parking lot. I had to say bye. Dodge Magnum, you will forever be missed!

Ok, now that the sappy “car love” is out of the way, on to today’s diet entry and why there is a “Mc” in my title.

I admit it. I ate McDonald’s1 yesterday. I ate the heck out of a Double Quarter-Pounder meal. Was it good for me? Probably not. Have I had it in a long time? Nope. So did it hurt me? Well, I lost 0.2 pounds, so I guess it didn’t hurt my weight. My percentages are all the same as yesterday. So it must not have hurt me too bad. Will I do it more often? Nope. Fast food is bad for you. It is. But just because a food is bad for you does not mean you can’t have it every once in a while.

  1. McDonald’s and its logo belong to them. I’m just borrowing the image for this post. I didn’t think they would mind. [«]

Fast food is bad indeed. But it doesn’t hurt if you eat fast food once in a while. Sure a quarter pounder meal could really make you feel guilty but I guess with your strict diet plan and exercise you could probably get rid of all the guilt. =) Just remember to eat in moderation and get lots of sleep and exercise. Good luck with your journey to a healthier you.

I hope you enjoyed it :)

You can’t be good all the time. Breaking the rules every now and then can’t hurt, besides it’s good to treat yourself for doing a great job.

Have you watched Super Size Me? It’s a docu of a healthy person who subjected himself to eat nothing but McD for 30 days because McD is denying that people get sick because of them. After I watched it, I never looked at a fastfood the same way again…especially McD. We have a local foodchain that rivals with McD…Jollibee…and I noticed that the chicken is really different. Most often the 2 chains would be located one in front of the other. I’d go for J even if I had to cross the hiway.

I always keep the amount of food I eat within my limits. Even things that should make me feel guilty never actually break my diet. I’ve just gotta buckle down and get more exercise.

Yeah. It’s bad for you. And actually, as I mentioned in another comment, it didn’t taste that good like it used to. I probably won’t do it again.

I eat very little fast food and find that I do lose the taste for it the longer time passes. Sometimes even just the smell can make me ill.

As for splurging, I think you have to do that every once in a while. I always say that everything is good in moderation, especially moderation…

I live on fast food =P. My lunch breaks only 30 minutes, and that’s about the only thing I can get within that time frame. Its probably the reason why I’ve gained almost 30LBS over 5 years working for the same people.

Awww…that will eat you up alive, Mitch! Can’t you just bring food from home? You can munch on a lot of carrot sticks if you like and you can work while eating…even if you use some dip, it’s not as harmful as fastfoods.

Wanna cure for fast food? Just work for them!

I worked for McD’s for 11 months around 1980 - it took me 10 years to get over it.

I did occassionally visit then the other day, I went in for a vanilla shake - the only remaining thing I could tolerate. It was awful. I knew then that I didn’t ever have to go back again.

I know that if I were somewhere weird and I had to choose between some local greasy spoon and McD’s, I’d pick McD’s since they are standardized. I would have to be pretty desperate though.

Feel free to try my ‘cure’ anytime! I guarantee it works…

I think your age has to qualify in order to be accepted for the cure, right? :)

Could you share, Pam, what’s inside McD that we outside do not know?

Saphrym, what are you using to get the measurements? I never heard of anything that measures water weight or fat, only muscle. And your scale goes to decimals? Never heard of that either.

South Beach is the only diet that ever really worked for me and one of the reasons it worked is that Dr. Agaston says very specifically Don’t deny yourself. Letting yourself have the occasional treat and working it into your program gives you a much higher likelihood of Sticking with the diet and continuing to lose weight. Which it sounds like exactly what you did. Good for you, Mike.

It’s a scale I bought at the local K-mart. It’s made by Produex and is called a: Glass precision electronic scale + body fat, water and muscle monitor.

I think it’s important that every dieter find their own diet. Sure, you start with one that other’s follow but then modify it as necessary. Like when I added protein to my diet and my weight started dropping again. That’s why I weigh every day so I can find out if there are any changes that need to be made.
