Questions and Answers Sorry about my tardiness. This post contains my diet diary from yesterday. I’ll have the one for today up later this evening as always. But with my new features, I had more prep work to do. But a lot of it is done to make this much easier in the future, so my diet diary entries should be on time from now on.

Evil Woobie had some great questions that I will answer here:

I’m curious about the chips that you eat and the tasty pies… and pizza!

Well, the most recent pie was the Lemon Cream Cheese Pie. I normally eat Pringles. And as for the pizza, you’ll have to wait for that recipe when I post my diet entry for Friday.

how much of the chips do you consume, like half a bag or how much? Does the saltiness take the edge of not eating sweets?

Saltiness is just another flavor. As you have less sugar and salt throughout your dieting experience, you’ll find that it all tastes different and most of the time, better. I was such a sugarholic that a lot of salty and savory foods just didn’t taste as good to me. But now I even use mustard on my sandwiches because I can taste just how good it is. Read this link to find out more about the chips I eat.

Which ingredients do you take out, and if you bake them or cook them, what do you substitute for the fatty ingredients without sacrificing taste (for pies and others). What sugar substitute you use? And did you feel dizzy during the initial phase of your diet?

I never felt dizzy during the beginning of my diet. Dizziness is never a good sign. What I did was try to find anything I could that would fill me up but without eating as many carbs. I was limited by my nurse as to how many carbs I could eat. Also, having 5 meals a day (3 meals and 2 snacks actually) helps tremendously. Over time, your stomach starts to shrink and lesser amounts do the job. And I was allowed 60g of carbs per meal and 45g of carbs per snack.

I don’t substitute much of anything in homemade recipes. I just don’t go nuts with the portions I eat. I keep them within my carb limits and am careful about not having too much fat. Just because my diet is a carb limiter doesn’t mean I can have 3 steaks, a few eggs, and one piece of bread for each meal. Basically if it fits on my plate in small piles, I know I’m doing ok. For the more sugary stuff, I make sure to read the packages carefully for how many carbs and never go over my limit. Well, at least not much. Sometimes I have 65g of carbs instead of the max of 60g. But as long as it’s not all the time, I’m fine.

Oh, and when I absolutely want sugar but no carbs, I use Splenda. Like any other sugar substitute, too much of it is bad for you, but it’s the best tasting sugar substitute to me. I used to use the brown sugar version of it for my oatmeal, but the savings in carbs wasn’t worth the extra money. But I always keep a bag of the regular Splenda on hand at the house for those times when I just want to add sugar.

I’ve associated dieting with tasteless food, fruit/vegetables and dietary supplements/proteins that don’t allow much sensorial binge-ing (in terms of taste and texture). But reading your diet posts, I’m starting to think that it could be fun to diet.

It is fun to diet. When I started, I took it literally. So instead of a burger, I’d have a double stacked burger. Hey, the carbs were low, right? Well, actually that worked. It made me feel like I could do this diet. And then with the lack of as many carbs as I used to eat and the 5 meals a day, I started to eat less at each meal because I was feeling full. Lack of exercise at the beginning actually helped me to stay on my diet because I wasn’t hungry from the workout. Now, I don’t get hungry from exercising, well, at least not as much as I used to.

Also, how long before you get adjusted to the taste of diet soda? I hate the taste. =(

Drink only water for 5 days in a row. Drink a bunch of it. On the 6th day, if diet drinks aren’t a “treat” to you, then I don’t know what to tell you. After drinking something as bland as water, for me, diet drinks taste great. Of course, I’m picky. I hate diet colas like Pepsi and Coke. I like Diet Mountain Dew and Diet Dr. Pepper. Those taste closest to the originals. But to stay away from sodium, I drink Diet Rite now. It has no carbs, no sodium, etc. It uses Splenda to sweeten, so it tastes pretty good. I like the tangerine, raspberry, and white grape flavors.

haha, looks like the book is starting to take shape! I met a girl recently and she talked about blood type dieting… she said there’s a book about it and it tells the food to avoid for a corresponding blood type… she ate a lot at the wedding reception I attended and she says that’s the only diet that worked for her. Any idea?

She’s an international model and thin as a reed, btw.
