All right, who out there likes Collection Agencies? If you do, raise your hand!
For those of you who raised your hands, I have a few things to say:
- I can’t see your hands from here, so why did you do it?
- You must have something ticking wrong in that head of yours to admit that you
like Collection Agencies, but this is proven by #1 anyway.
If you are friends with someone that works for a Collection Agency, or have a relative that does, I’ll forgive you this once, and you can ignore #2, but not #1.
Come on people, I’ve never known anyone as rude as a worker for a Collection Agency. I swear this rudeness of theirs must be taught. There is no way it was born in them! (That is unless you breed Roseanne and Woody Allen. Caution: Imagining the last phrase could be hazardous to your health, and if you have done so, do not operate heavy machinery, ever again.) So, it must be taught! And I think I found the proof the other day.
I went to the local Books-a-Million and I actually found a section that was titled: “Collection Agency Training Materials”. Here are a few examples of the books I found there:
- “How to Pull the Heart Out of the Borrower (And what to do with it afterwards)”
- “1001 Ways to Rip Hope from Your Victim”
- “The 12 Step Program to Becoming Meaner than a Drill Sergeant”
And that was only 3 of the many books on torture, hate, and any other evil thing you can think of, that were located in this section. As a matter of fact, not too far away was a book that was titled: “How to Beat the Bill Collectors”. I opened it up, and found it was actually “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” with a different cover. Seriously, though, folks. These people are the meanest people I’ve ever spoke to on the phone. They’ve made people cry, and whine, and hide in fear. No one on this earth should treat another human being like that. No one! I understand they just want to get the money that is owed their clients, but, uh, they don’t have to go to the point they do. “You don’t need food! You need to pay us! You should have thought about food before you maxed out your credit card! Go get a loan to pay us off! Drain your family of money! Sell your brain to science!” (Preceding were statements I’ve ACTUALLY heard from a bill collector who called me once. I’m not trying to pull your leg on this one.)
I think we should gather every bill collector’s home phone number, wake up at 6 a.m., call them, scream into the phone, “You’ll get your money when I give it to you!”, and see how THEY like it!
(This is the kind of stuff that comes out of my brain when some… person calls me during dinner and tells me I’m 2 days late for a student loan payment and then proceeds to yell at me for it.)

Applebee’s? Really… Applebee’s? I hate their food and I hate their tables made for 10 foot tall people. I’ve only been there three times in my lifetime, but each time I go the tables make me feel like a midget and their food makes me not want to eat for a month (or maybe that was your diet plan? ;))

@impNERD - I think it depends on the people who work there. When we lived in Louisiana, I pretty much hated Applebee’s for the food. Never had a problem with the tables. They had regular tables there and here in Kentucky. However, out here in Kentucky, the Applebee’s has good food.
I’ve noticed the same thing for fast food places too. Food seems to be better out here and the service is much better. I think the difference is the pay. In Louisiana, people were paid minimum wage to work at these places. Out here, you start at 8 to 9 dollars an hour if you work at McDonald’s. And I live in a low income area, so that kind of pay goes a long way. Seems to make the employees work harder and better .

I can totally identify with what you mean. A few years back we had a terrible time financially. My husband had lost a job he held for 12 years and racked up quite a bit in medical bills at the time.
I once had a collector who used the line “You should have thought about that before you racked up all those credit card bills.” For which I replied, “I don’t have credit cards. The only bills we have are medical bills and a mortgage. Do you want to blame it on my baby who was hospitalized?”
They simply said,”Oh.”
It’s one job I would hate to have. I can imagine that people can get pretty rude. And I’ll admit that I had one elderly gentleman call who was so kind. It was unexpected and guess who got paid first when we began to recover from our financial set-backs. The people who were rude and wouldn’t budge got paid back last. (There’s a hint for any collection agencies out there).

There are some nice debt collectors, but most are just plain scum, very few in the UK operate within the law and most lie about there actual powers to collect money from you and take you possessions. If in doubt, get independent advice from a debt help company. Don’t let the debt collectors into your house and if they force there way in, make sure you fall awkwardly, lol.

Okay so one called me the other day. I was behind on student loans.. and it was this automated thing. It asked if i was Jason press #1. So i did. The guy picks up and ask for my information, then says “I see you are behind on your payments is this why you called us today”. I said. ?!?! F… no you called me. He kinda laughed. Then I did some business and yelled that noone there ever reads the 50 emails I have sent so I wasn’t paying them a dime.
And now I don’t have to pay for a few months.

Wow! 9 more pounds since I wrote the story around Christmastime! Way to go!
And the blood glucose is excellent.
You know, blogging about your weight loss has been a good tool. I think I’ll advise it to my own patients.

Is hatred… errr, contempt (hatred came from love)… for bill collectors universal? lol
I always thought they were born mean and simply gravitated towards that kind of job. We have one local company (owned by a Christian) who’s collectors are nice and that company has managed to close a few competitors with mean collectors.
Goes to show being nice also makes money.
