Following is the diet that I follow on a normal day. If I break this diet, I’ll let you know about it on Saturdays:

Daily Diet

Fluids:
Water (16 oz - 5 times a day)
(Sometimes I drink Diet Rite Zero colas for flavor. They have no carbs, no calories, and specifically, no sodium. My favorite is White Grape.)
Exercise:
20 Curls of 85+ pounds. (This is how I tuck my daughter in. She loves it and my arm muscles are getting stronger.)
Current day from my exercise plan.
Meal 1 (below 60 carbs):
Oatmeal
Multivitamin
B150 Vitamin Complex
Snack 1 (below 45 carbs):
1 Slim Fast 220 Calorie Optima Bar
Meal 2 (below 60 carbs):
Whatever is planned for dinner. If I feel the recipe is good enough or not a packaged meal, I’ll make a post including that recipe on Saturdays.
Snack 2 (below 45 carbs):
1 Slim Fast 220 Calorie Optima Bar
Meal 3 (below 60 carbs):
2 Peanut Butter Sandwiches
Chips

My favorite no-calorie drink has to be the ‘clear free’ flavored water they sell at Wal-Mart. It’s carbonated and has great taste. The strawberry and key-lime are uber delicious.

@Gary - I’ll have to try that one. I’ve heard others say it’s good.

I especially like them because there isn’t artificial sugar (I’m not a fan of aspartame), so it is pretty much exactly like water.

Recent studies done at the University of Texas and Purdue University have shown that diet soda can make you fatter than if you drank regular soda. No soda at all would be best. Read the post on my blog that talks about that

@Jeff - I posted a comment on your blog, but I’ll repeat it here for my readers: “I must be one of the exceptions to the rule then. When I stopped drinking regular cola and went to diet cola, I dropped over 50 pounds rather quickly. Wasn’t just the diet soda that did it, but it was a large part. However, the diet soda I drink contains no caffeine and no sodium and I don’t drink it all the time. I also drink water.”

Diet soda is fine Saphrym. As you stated by simply going off the regular soda and losing that much weight…..this is a HUGE component of weight loss. Just cutting out that sugar, calories out of your daily intake for most will yield similar results.

I have worked with hundreds of people in my career, none of which got fat from drinking diet soda.

@ Jeff - Okay, I get the study and it makes sense. A lot of things that we take in to our bodies is not necessarily good for us, but in it’s self will not make us fat. Is it better to probably not drink soda at all…sure.

Will the actual act of drinking diet soda make you fat? NO.

I wouldn’t suggest people take up drinking diet soda to benefit them in losing weight or living a healthier lifestyle if they already don’t drink soda, but I will tell you that making the change from regular to diet has helped transform the lives of many.

Like anything else….diet soda in moderation, combined with eating the right food and getting enough water consumption daily will have little and likely no negative effect on someone. Surely will not cause them to get fat. If one get “fatter” it’s always going to be because of the rest of the choices they are making.

MAN….studies like this make me mad because they leave out a lot of important data like specifics on other lifestyle choices that people are making. Unfortunately….the research on “researches say….” is that given the right and wrong circumstances for “research” you can make the results what you want them to be…………. :|

Water is the key. I am almost 62 and have been drinking lots of water since before it was “the trendy thing to do” It’s kept me slim and trim and young looking. Now if I could just figure out this blogging thing. Good read, Rick

Well done! ANY increase in your movement is going to help too — I read research that even if you’re a couch potato you can save 5kg of weight gain per year simply by fidgeting more!

    Good luck :-)

he he he, or perhaps you’d have gained MORE if you didn’t fidget?! lol

How about turning that fidgeting into leg-lifts or ankle twirls? Try it for a week and report back - does it really make a difference or is this research “reaching”?

    ;-)
