(The Daily Read is a series of blog posts written on posts that have been found throughout the Entrecard blogosphere. If you’re interested in having your own post listed here, send me a link to that post THROUGH ENTRECARD. You can do so by clicking on the “E” on the Entrecard widget to your right. I will take a look and respond to let you know if it will be featured here.)
Tonight I bring you not 5 sites like normal, but one single site that stood out among the many I’ve been surfing recently. As always, if you like the site, share it and subscribe. Stumble be not thine enemy.
AntiBarbie.net
“Homemaker. Mom. Cynic. Hellbound Scribe of Nightmares.” I see that every time I visit the site. This tag line impresses me. It’s well thought out and fits the blog perfectly. Follow me as I delve into the world that encompasses the mind of Dawn, the woman behind the blog.
Content
I love opinionated blogs. I’ve subscribed to tons of them. Intelligent words are like drugs to me. I can listen, read, and soak them in all day. That’s what you’ll find over at AntiBarbie.net. Sure, the posts can be considered controversial, such as “Don’t pin your lifestyle on Jesus!” Heck, some Christians would consider that downright blasphemous. But it’s a very intelligent post. Creativity also flows within the pages of this blog. “My First Story” is an excellent short story. “Poetry - Old Crone” is a poem of warning written by Dawn to remind herself of what she doesn’t want to become. It serves well as a warning to others also. It’s nice to see a site that is not afraid to mince words yet
have plenty of meaning within those words.
Design
The simplicity of the banner caught me the first time I went to AntiBarbie.net. A simple picture of a stern but beautiful woman, the tag line I mentioned earlier, and the curly lettering told me much about the site from first glance. This is why I kept reading and still do, as I have subscribed long ago and read every new post. The colors match the mood she is trying to create with her words. So there is no clash of form and function. And again, I subscribed, so the huge RSS “Feed Me!” widget definitely did its job. The site is simple but perfect for what Dawn is trying to accomplish.
Use of Ads
This site is NOT a “make money” blog. There are no ads. It’s just a great read. That is quite refreshing.
Placement of Entrecard Widget
Since this is a Daily Read, that means this site is part of Entrecard. As it is, I figure it would be a good thing to mention the location of the widget. It’s about 2-3 screens down depending on your resolution. But since this site is not about money making and all about content, I think it’s a very fair place to put it.
Conclusion
Beautiful. Fitting. Intelligent. Refreshing. Perfect.

Once more Saphrym you’ve found time to review another wonderful blog in such intricate detail. Last time I followed your link to Blogging Ads and had an interesting read indeed, but couldn’t leave a comment. So this if for both times :). Keep doing the good stuff you do for the community.
