The Daily Read - impNerd

Filed under Reader | Posted by Saphrym

The Daily Read(The Daily Read is a series of blog posts written on posts that have been found throughout the Entrecard blogosphere. If you’re interested in having your own post listed here, send me a link to that post THROUGH ENTRECARD. You can do so by clicking on the “E” on the Entrecard widget to your right. I will take a look and respond to let you know if it will be featured here.)

And here’s another single blog edition of the Daily Read. Thou shalt Stumble, Digg, etc. (Commandment 219)

On a personal note, Gary has been an inspiration and has tremendously improved my knowledge of SEO and much more of the marketing jargon and concepts. I’ve been out of this “business” for years and it’s nice to have a capable source to ease me back into it. Every ounce of his brain is worth millions to bloggers world wide.

Content

impNerd provides quality information on blogging and marketing. Gary’s not one of the “watch me while I try to make money because I’m just learning” types. He’s been there and done that. He makes money and is mostly quiet about it. Know Your Audience: A guide to PPC Advertising is an excellent source on pay-per-click advertising and one of his newest “must read” articles. Internet Predictions for 2008 is a funny post but it got me because of a recent diet diary I posted about McDonald’s. Read it and you’ll understand. Shows he is not all serious work and has a sense of humor. There are some people who don’t like you to have this kind of information, but Gary shares all in posts like 5 Amazing Webmaster Forums.

Design

The design on impNerd is very simple and business like. Posts are easy to find and the navigation is just as intuitive. I am a huge fan of the colors black, red, and white, and well, he uses those, so I’m biased in my opinion of his color scheme. Gary proves that content is supreme and flashy templates are not necessary. There’s no flash here, but it’s bound to be a classic.

Use of Ads

He’s got a block of 6 ads all the way on the right of the screen. They are far from his content, so therefore don’t bog down trying to read his blog. If you want this many ads on your blog, take a cue from Gary and keep them AWAY from your content.

Placement of Entrecard Widget

I surf at 1600×1200 and his widget is close to the bottom of the screen but still quick to find. For other resolutions, you probably only need to scroll a little bit. But why not take advantage of that and read his content?

Conclusion

Concise and full of useful information unlike other blogs out there. This is one of the “money making” blogs I trust and have subscribed to.

“This is one of the “money making” blogs I trust and have subscribed to.”

You know, I never saw it as a ‘money making’ blog. I’ve had a few others say the same thing, and I know why, but I just don’t see it that way. I see it more as a general internet marketing blog, mainly because most ‘money making’ blogs are all about making money for themselves and usually just mention where they ate *cough* *john chow* *cough* or tell you to use AdSense.

Other than that, I’m glad I could help you out at least a little. I’ve seen a few things on your blog I have learned about as well, like the projectwonderful ads. So it all works out.

You’re right. “Money making” and “Internet Marketing” ARE two different things, but people try to pass off the first as the second. So I wanted people to understand that yours was the real deal. ;)

And I’m glad I could help a little. I still owe you plenty for the advice you’ve given me though.

The pay as you click is the better way to advertise because you only pay for he clicks and not the exposures. However if you have a banner that display a web address people will remember the address without clicking on the ad and will be saving you money.
