(The Daily Read is a series of blog posts written on posts that have been found throughout the Entrecard blogosphere. If you’re interested in having your own post listed here, send me a link to that post THROUGH ENTRECARD. You can do so by clicking on the “E” on the Entrecard widget to your right. I will take a look and respond to let you know if it will be featured here.)
Last night it was an Internet Marketing site that blew my socks off. Tonight, I’m going bare footed again with a techie site (One of these days I’m going to manage to review a bad site. Seriously. I’m getting tired of loving the sites and subscribing, Stumbling, etc. them. Why? Because I have too much to read!):
Techie Portal
“Techie” isn’t even the half of it. I’ve seen many blogs and news feeds for cool tech stuff. I used to read Lockergnome religiously. I’ve even subscribed to Download.com feeds. This one is right up there with the big guys. I love the information found here.
Content
I’ve already said it, but I’m saying it again: “I love the information found here.” 4 Programs you didn’t know existed on your computer is exactly what it says it is, and seriously, I’m a computer consultant part time and I didn’t know most of these existed on my computer. If you don’t have Photoshop or aren’t good at using it or GIMP, then this cool gadget that Alfred mentions might be good for you: beFunky.com - Funky ways to express yourself. (I know some Entrecard design that could use some work from this place.) And for you Wordpress people, this post got me salivating: Wordpress version 2.4 Preview. The content is well written and Alfred not only reports about Techie related stuff, but he’s also a Techie himself. So he knows what he’s talking about.
Design
I love the penguin with the wrench. Reminds me of Tux, but cooler. The color scheme is pleasing to the eye. The sidebar is uncluttered with important subscription information at the top. There are helpful images throughout the posts. Alfred picked a great theme and managed to make it his own.
Use of Ads
I have no idea how he monetizes or if he even cares to. There are no ads. None. Nada. Zilch. Well, there’s the Entrecard widget, but that’s it. Speaking of…
Placement of Entrecard Widget
The widget is at the bottom of my 1600×1200 screen on the right. So those surfing at 800×600 will have to scroll down a screen. But so what? It’s a great trip down as you read.
Conclusion
Techie. Exactly.
