Skiing without a Net

Yeah, that title is kind of obtuse. I went to the doctor today. We talked about my blood sugar. Since it’s been averaging kind of low, I asked her if I could stop taking my Glucophage. She said yes. So, my “net” is now gone.

As for the skiing part, as I was driving I noticed some snow left over on the sides of the hills. I still can’t get over actual hills around here and they are especially beautiful with snow on them. It got me to thinking about when I was young. See, my mom was from Canada. So, I’m half-Canadian and half-American. I even have the ID to prove it.Canadian ID Feel free to click on it and behold my tremendous cuteness. Laughter is, of course, a necessity. Well, my mom passed away on July 13th, 2000. I remember it well because it was my 4th wedding anniversary. So, she won’t get to do with my daughter what she did with me: Go skiing.

I’d love to go skiing again. I have fond memories of it as a child. When my dad moved us to Louisiana, I hated the hot weather. I’m born for the cold weather even though I was born in Georgia. It gets below 30 degrees outside and I’m still wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It’s just the way I am. So, I’d love to go skiing. I can just imagine a Courchevel chalet in France. The beautiful wood exteriors. The snow on the ground. My daughter making a snowman. And then I can imagine clamping on those skis and taking off, not a care in the world other than the feeling of gliding effortlessly across a gorgeous landscape with the cold air flowing soothingly over my throat as I breathe it in. I could think of my wife, my daughter, and my mother. I could let those thoughts warm me if it got just a little cold. Then, after I’m done skiing, I could go back to the chalet and drink some hot cocoa and hang out with my family while we play a game of Monopoly by the fireplace.

That would be a nice vacation.
