I’ve been having some internet issues today so this is just going to be a quick update on a few things:
1. Cleaning House - I’ve decided to stop using outside sources for stuff on the site because it’s been bogging down my load times. I’m keeping Entrecard because it’s a community I’m very involved in. I’m also keeping Project Wonderful because I really like it. However, I’ve dropped every other service I was using that pulled from other sites. Feedburner pushes to another site so it doesn’t count. I’ve dropped Google Analytics. I’ve switched over to Open Web Analytics. It can be used as a plugin for WordPress and does a really good job so far. And with the OWA Most Popular plugin it takes over completely where my old Google Analytics plugin left off. So now everything is hosted on my site and it seems to have sped it up quite a bit. I also still use Twitter but now I just link to it in the top menu.
2. Mobile Saphrym - I’ve added a mobile version of Saphrym.com using the BuzzBoost option from Feedburner to repost my feed as minimal HTML. I’ve linked it in the menu but you can get to it by going to m.saphrym.com.
3. The $250 Contest - My $250 contest is still running but only has 14 days left. So get your entries in soon or you’ll be left out. I’ll update 2 days from now with a list of all valid entries so far.
So there you have it. A quick update. See you guys tomorrow with another MWF Read. Hopefully I’ll have some really good posts to point out to you. Make sure to get those into me by sending me a message at Entrecard. Just click on the yellow and black E on the right near the 4 ads.

The link to Open Web Analytics is broken (no .com). I haven’t heard of that place before, looks nice, I’ll have to give it a try.

@impNERD - Thanks. Fixed. And yeah, I’ve been looking through all of the stats it’s been providing. It even uses Google Maps to produce a map of where your visitors come from. Tons of info to sift through. I’m becoming a fan pretty quick considering I don’t have that extra 2-7 seconds attached to my site while trying to connect to Google Analytics anymore.

I noticed right away your site loaded faster. Thanks for speeding it up. I get little impatient at times.
And thanks for the tips on the plugin to replace analytics. I wasn’t familiar with it.
I’ve been looking for ways to speed up my sites as well. I switched most of my themes ones that were primarily css based and noticed quite a difference there.

I installed the openwebanalytics and it seems good. The one thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have outbound click tracking. I like to know where my visitors are going when they leave my site :\
Other than that it looks great. Tons of information, and the best part is I don’t have to wait a couple hours until Google decides to update their Analytics.
For now, I’m going to keep both on. Hopefully Open Web Analytics gets some sort of outbound tracking.

@impNerd - I didn’t even know GA tracked outbound. I know OWA has that cool click/heat map feature to see where people are clicking on your site. It also goes back to the site that referred you and figures out the link text used etc. I’ve checked everywhere though and find nothing for outbound. That would be a nice feature.

@Saphrym - it isn’t necessarily that GA tracks outbound, it’s that certain plugins make it able to. For example, the plugin I was using ads a short javascript to each outbound link, so it forces GA to think it is a link within the site, when it isn’t. So it places all the outbound links inside a folder called /outbound/article so all you have to do is go to your content drilldown, select that directory then you see how many outbound clicks there were.

@impNerd - Ahhh. Yes. I remember. Wordpress Reports. I had that one installed too. Outbound didn’t work right for me though. Could be other javascript on my site messing with it.

I think I may just give OWA a spin as well. Thanks for mentioning it, I hadn’t heard of it til now
I’ve been using StatCounter for quite a while, but lately it’s been really hanging and causing slow loading times.

@Mike - I’m liking it. Just having issues with tracking feeds so think I may have to turn that off until I figure it out. It creates bogus addresses for the post links in my feed.
