The Coral J. Bear Read-a-Thon

My daughter’s school is having a Read-a-Thon called the Knights Crusade for Literacy. That’s one of those activities where people pledge either a one-time amount or a per book amount and the person being sponsored reads during the given time. This particular Read-a-Thon, because it’s in lower grades, allows for chapters in a chapter book, newspaper articles, comic books, small books, and other similar things to count as one book.

The money for this Read-a-Thon will be going to her reading teacher so that books and other necessary materials can be purchased for the classroom. Since she will have the same reading teacher next year, I am even more inclined to participate. Personally, we have pledged 10 cents for every book that my daughter reads. That may not sound like a lot, but this Read-a-Thon runs until March 12th, and on this first week of the event, my daughter is already at 31 books, which would be $3.10. Her goal was 45. But she wants to get as many as possible, and I promise you, when my daughter puts her mind to something like this, she gives it her all. She’s also very competitive.

So, the reason I bring all of this up, is I’m wondering if you would be willing to participate. Here are the details:

  • My daughter will read books for 3 weeks (this being one of those weeks), until March 12th.
  • At the end of those 3 weeks, a list of books she read will be posted.
  • Books include chapters in a chapter book, comic books, newspaper articles, etc.
  • People will pledge a single amount (such as $5.00) or a per book amount (such as $0.10).
  • We will collect those pledges during our Spring Break (March 13th – 21st).
  • We will turn in the money to her reading teacher on March 22nd-24th.
  • I will post up the thank you letter we receive from the teacher along with details on what the money is being spent on.

That’s about it. Do not feel obliged to do so. Feel free to comment and just wish her luck on the number of “books” she reads. I’ll show her the comments. Oh, and feel free to visit her site also: CoralJBear.com.

The form to submit your pledge is below, followed by a few FAQs. I’ll post a list of people who pledge on this post at the bottom, unless you choose to keep it anonymous, then I’ll put “anonymous” and the amount. If you’d like a website link next to your name, make sure to fill out that part of the form.

Q: How do I know this is legit?
A: Contact me and I will provide whatever proof you require. Remember, a comment to cheer her on is good enough also.

Q: I live far away from you. How would I get you the money?
A: I’ll send you my PayPal e-mail. You can send me the money that way. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can also use a credit card through PayPal. I’ll send out “invoices” for the amounts during Spring Break.
